April 14 - April 16 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

Join us for a hands-on, integrated technology camp where participants get to design their own video games and see them come to life using one of the most beloved forms of filmmaking: Stop Motion Animation! Campers will work together in small production groups to design ideas for original video games and will create prototypes using a variety of materials and art making processes. Next, they will film animated player tutorials bringing their games to life using stop motion animation and our professional setup which includes: DSLR cameras, MacBook Laptops and professional grade software “DragonFrame”. Finally, we will get a chance to film the directors themselves during a “pixilation” exercise (the animation of living subjects)!
Finished films will be edited together with sound and music into one amazing collaborative work of art which will be sent to families via online link. Visitors to the link may view, download and share the film again and again.

*One special thing to note about our Bartow-Pell camp: our young filmmakers in this camp get VIP access to this historic mansion/ museum with permission to film in otherwise restricted areas. They will have the place to themselves; exploring the many mysterious and beautiful filming locations available exclusively to this group.

About:

The Little Animation Studio was founded by Laura Bellmont; an illustrator and NYC DOE-certified educator who has been teaching in the NYC Metro area for over fifteen years.  Laura received her Masters degree in Arts Education from Pratt Institute and graduated with honors, earning her initial certification with the NYC Department of Education. She has created an original method of teaching that is rooted in her consideration of each student as a unique learner. Laura regards her teaching practice as a living art form.

With each new program, Laura and a small team of highly skilled educators, animators, artists and art therapists, work together to create a new approach to teaching by using stop motion animation filmmaking as their vehicle to impart more complex skill sets and concepts.

TLAS designs workshops that cultivate commercial and traditional art-making skills, communication and collaboration, problem-solving and the mindful use of technology. Each curriculum is shaped to accommodate the needs of our partners by creating original lesson plans for every engagement.

Bartow-Pell reserves the right to cancel this workshop due to insufficient enrollment.
