May 11 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

As an homage to the early days of the museum – then known as the International Garden Club – staff of Bartow-Pell has curated a pop-up floral exhibition strewn throughout the mansion celebrating Life Events.

The flowers chosen for each type of arrangement will reveal the long tradition of placing meaning on flowers. Known as floriography, this obscure cryptological communication carries messages, symbolism, meanings, and even predictions.

Test your acumen in the language of flowers through a scavenger hunt decoding game as you wander through the mansion that will reveal the hidden meaning of the flowers, regardless of whether the arranger meant it or not.

Curated by Susan Chesloff, Lycia Kougemitros, Alison McKay, Maxine Siegel, and Robin Vernuccio with the scavenger hunt devised by Margaret Holmes.

Join us for an opening reception on May 11 at 2 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.

Cost: Free with museum admission.
